Due to its technical characteristics of versatility and robustness, during the eighties portaro became popular not only as a vehicle for racing, but was also used in many public services of the state, as fire engine or forest ranger, and there are still vehicles in action .

Here's a very well preserved portaro 260, from Amadora fire-brigade... 8)

240 Model. Probably one of the first portaros fire engine...
