Re: petrol to desel..
Original diesel engine was Renault F8Q. This is large family F8Q X ZZZ engnies, where X = T (turbodiesel) X = A (naturally aspirated), ZZZ is number (version of engine). Most F8Q engines You do not adapt to aro 10, because flywheel and cluth in aro are smaller.
Original aro 10 diesel was F8QA624.
Other F8Q.... engines was in:
Mitsubishi Carisma
Volvo S40, V40
Peugeot Partner (afar older version named XUD...)
Citroen Berlingo (same above)
and many more
but - as I said - cluth is bigger.

Re: petrol to desel..
Aro 10 with Renault diesel engines came with another gearbox (5 speed).
You need also another diffs because the rotation is reversed.
So it's better to buy an Aro 10 with this engine already (form France http://www.leboncoin.fr/annonces/offres/?f=a&th=1&q=aro).
With classical 4 speed gearbox, works 1,6 Volkswagen engine from Golf 2, but you need a special clutch case (quite rare).

With clasic 4 speed gearbox 1,9 D or TD renault diesel (f8Q A 624 for exampel) but you need the clutch case (that clutch case is manufactured in romania for the gearbox in 5 speed (the gear box is for renault traffic diesel year ~80 /85 )but the clutch case is very rare find faster in France than in romania, if you leave the original gear box groups not be changed, but if you put td engine gearbox will not last td

what about this engine
1.8s RT 1783 cm³ 66 kW (90 PS) engine code F3P 04/1992–05/199 will it fit to the original gearcase mountings?
