Hi guys,

My name is Ilija i am from Skopje Macedonia.
My father gave me his Aro 10.4 for a graduation gift and now its my time to fix it and ride it like it was ment to be.
it is from 1996 or 1997 with 1.4 petrol engine.

i have begun the restoration slowly.. the body has no rust it is in great shape but the previous owner that we bought the aro made some stupid repairs and damaged some things.
i have broken tooth on the second gear and some other minor problems..

but we will deal with that later..
for now.. this is the aro i have..
it is a dream come true for me

Hy there,and welcome here.
So you've got 4 speed gearbox and 14 inch rims.
You can put 15 inch rims and 195/80/15 tyres If you want more ground clearance and better off road capabilities.After 1999 all ARO 10 had standard 15 inch rims.
If you need some spare parts,say it here!

yes i was thinking about 15 inch rims and bigger tyres but gearbox is frist on the list.. i`ll take detailed pictures of my aro today

It seems you've some work ahead.
You're lucky because between Bucharest and Skopje you have only 460 km, and there you can find some parts. But you might restore your 10.4 gradually, like I did with mine. From what I observed quickly, I think you need to replace all the rubbers of the steering joints, and suspension, a new or a repared gear box and a speedometer, for now.
Usually you must not drive with 4x4 system, but only in case of off-road, and if you're stuck in the mud, or something, because you'll spend more petrol and that can also cause damages.
By the way, i liked the oil cap...

Yes i do have some work to do.. i will restore it gradually because i dont have money for everything for now..
first on the list is the gear for the gearbox a battery and fixing water leaks and electricity leaks..
i dont know if the oil cap is original but i think its not and i need to get a new one.. not sure if it leaks..

so far i have removed the wheels and started cleaning the whole underneath for a coat of paint..
i am not sure about changing the suspension??? i think it works good. the back suspension its very stiff but replacing that with new generation suspension i reckon its very expensive.

i am not sure how to find rubber parts in here.. i`ll have to search them in Romania also.. that could be expensive also...

i know about riding 4x4 but i dont quite know how blocking the rear dif gets you out of trouble..
what kind of aro do you have?

All those wheels are beautiful, so I'd choose the cheapest.
I didn't mean to say to replace the suspension (usually the suspension of Aro is hard, but eternal), but eventually the rubbers and the rear suspension caps, as i did with mine.
I'm owner of a portuguese Aro (Portaro), similar to the 240 romanian model.
When I bought it, in 2003, the car was just a bit of rust, but every year i do some slightly restoration work.
Now is nice and unique, and it's rare to find them so preserved.

i`ve seen the posts your portaro is beautiful.. anyways about the rims and tires on the previous post.. they will fit right?

i have found these tires for 130 euros.. as i can see they look great and will perform great offroad but i will also drive my aro to work.. which is on road.. with those tires i will have problems right?

If you use daily tires to go to work, I do not know if it will be convenient to use tires with a larger tread. They spend more fuel, reduce friction to the ground and are noisier.
Probably the best option is the medium tread block, but it also depends on atmospheric conditions in which you drive...
