Hello from Portugal
Stimati Domni
I live in Portugal, Algarve, and i have a Portaro 260 Celta, which was built here in 1981 under ARO licence. In my country there are many fans of this magnificent Romanian Car, but they are very rare, because we don't produce spare parts any longuer.
Multumesc foarte mult

Buna, Alex
Aici este o fotografie a motorului: DAIHATSU
Portaro = Portugalia + ARO
Portaro a fost construită în Portugalia, în conformitate cu ARO licenţă, între 1976 şi 1985.
Am avut 2 motoare: DAIHATSU (Diesel) ÅŸi Volvo.
Multumesc foarte mult.

Dear Sirs
I love your site: is attractive, qualified and complete.
Thanks for your commentary about my Portaro.
It's similar to the original, but i still have some restoration to do. It's a great machine!
Has only a little break in the steering.
Do you know if it's possible to adjust a steering box from another car. Which one?
I know Miguel Martins. He also likes Portaros. It's a very popular and friendly guy.
Best regards

Toate cele bune

Re: Hello from Portugal
u could install power steering using other models.
its unlikely that a classical steering box would be changed with one from another car, since spare parts still do exist here.
have a look into cab512 user, i think he used a mercedes powerstering box.
however, once u step on decision, u might need welding on the chassis for the new brackets.
ps portaros do look pretty cool, bit of an ancient flavor. nice

Thanks for your information, Alex.
I will ask cab 512 user, about the steering box.
Meanwile, here's another picture of a portaro fire engine, very popular in the eighties in Portugal.

Hi, Ramiro!Ramiro Cavaleiro wrote: Has only a little break in the steering.
I shall tell a pair of councils concerning power steering, for smaller quantity of problems at installation:
- A direction of the entrance and rudder shaft should coincide with "native";
- The weight category of "donor" should be not less "recipient"
- To remember, that the "donor-unit" will be necessary integrating to "native" details of car
On mine ARO is established power steering from BMW 535, bodies E12. Is a little changed drop arm and rudder shaft.
Now, on three ARO, we shall establish power steering from TLC70 with the right rudder.
Best wishes, Maxim.
p.s. excuse me please, because bad english

The Military Portaro
"SEMAL", the portuguese portaro manufacturer, also build a military Portaro for the army, named GVM, who could be used for multi purpose: ambulance; automatic machinegun, and so on, with Daihatsu, Opel and Volvo engines.

Re: Hello from Portugal
Hi, Alex
Important question. In fact it looks more slight that the usual portaro. However, for the purpose that it was built, i think 750 kilograms it's not enough, even if it was only the tare.
unfortunately, i can not certify the reference, because this military portaro doesn't longuer exist in portuguese army, and even in the museum.
This information was announced by ACP, nº 9 and 10, série III, in 1983.
It's a very important magazine about cars.
