Hi, Dragospetres

Your questions are always difficult... :)

To answer your question I would have to read the contract made in 1975 between Semal and Auto Romania, but considering that this contract is private, not public, probably the only person who can answer to your question is Mr. Hipólito Pires, ex owner of Portaro.

Anyway, a copy of the contract must be filed at Traian Street, nº 223, Campulung Muscel, if Aro still have an office there.

However, I can tell you that Portaro got into financial difficulties in 1983, because it had no state support to develop their latest prototype, and mainly due to a law that protected the rights of Renault, which owned the original license to build a 4X4 vehicle.

Regards.

Thanks, Werner

Everyone knows that Aro is officially in bankruptcy proceedings since June 2006...
The question is where are the contracts and licenses, and who have the historical documents.

The License is in the Hands of a Guy, who destroy the complete ARO History. His Name is ratiu, he buy to kill! Maybe this was the condition? He is a romanian, born in 1948 in Davos/Switzerland, and grow up in Great Britain. After 1989 he comes the first time to Romania. Now You can think about, what happens there.......!

Keep the hope, Werner!!!

Aro will be back, and manufactured in the mythical city of Câmpulung, with other owners and new facilities.
There are groups of Aro creditors interested in this project.
Maybe there's a chance... %%- good luck

Maybe you're right, Werner, but the production of automobiles and components in Western Europe is at the end.

Over the next 10 years the automobile industry will move to the countries of Eastern Europe and Asia: cheaper labor costs and highly qualified technology are very competitive, and Romania can take advantage on it... :)

I agree with this this is why it has happened.. However, having grown up working on around Land Rover's and other 4x4's ( they are a culture here) none of then have the Aro character.. They are truly unique... it's a lot sadder that Aro is no longer made than it would be if Land Rover had stopped even though i love them both

Don't be pessimistic, Axxel :(

Aro just need a strategic partner. Take the example of Dacia and Renault. Dacia Sendero, manufactured in Pitesti, certified with ISO since 2005, is being a sales success in Europe.
The formula is simple: low cost and quality.
As Daniel said, Aro has character because it isn't a commercial car: Do you want your neighbor off-road, or yours. If you want it your own way buy it Aro.
